STONE-FACED DOLLY'S

STONE-FACED DOLLY’S, 479 Bronson Ave (230 2088), is one of my favourite two or three Ottawa restaurants. There is a limited menu, with three or four daily specials up on the blackboard – meat/fish/vegetarian. Fresh ingredients, pleasant service, wine list includes South African, Australian. Prices? Quite reasonable, considering the high quality of the food and wine.

NEWPORT RESTAURANT By Craig MacDonald (Review)

NEWPORT RESTAURANT

S.E. Corner of Richmond Rd. and Churchill

Nothing fancy – though it is the Canadian home (?) of the Elvis Sighting Society. Beware of Elvis anniversaries, unless you like his music (impersonated) up close and personal. Otherwise ... we recommend the Popeye Pizza, Fatoush Salad and beer or wine.

The joys of Indian luncheon buffet

Retirement is proving to be hard work. Many evenings are occupied with meetings, rehearsals, movies at the Bytowne or tickets to the theatre; this leaves little time for a leisurely supper. The solution – a hearty lunch.

TABLE VEGETARIAN RESTAURANT By John Schioler (Review)

The Table Vegetarian Restaurant, 1230 Wellington St.

We have been steady patrons of the Green Door for about twenty years when the original owners began in a private house in Ottawa East. Since then, we have been going to their vegetarian establishment on Main Street for our weekly fix, joining thousands of others that fill the place all evening long . We don't intend to stop this enjoyable habit, but we have been pleasantly surprised at the quality and variety of the veggie food at The Table in the West End.

YELLOW RIVER RESTAURANT By Tom Torrance (Review)

TomTorrance

On Somerset St. on the corner across from the Kowloon Market.

My wife and I just love this place, not only because it's inexpensive,
but because the owner is (I believe) the best chinese chef that I have
ever found. It looks like a real hole in the wall, but the food is
terrific and the prices excellent.

For $7-$8 each, we get a choice of 4 soups, an individual choice of
about 10 different entrees (we order something different, and share)
with steamed rice, chinese tea and a fortune cookie.

Excellent value!

TO BE REVISED - RESTAURANT IS NOW ON BEECHWOOD - AND STILL WORTH THE VISIT

An intriguing name and a good write-up in The Citizen a few weeks ago led us to this scone specialty shop at 388 Albert Street, tel:-232-2173. (It is right next to where the ALTERNA Bank a.k.a. CSCOOP used to be).

ALGONQUIN INTERNATIONAL RESTAURANT - By Pierre Beemans (Review)

Pierre Beemans

The children are long since graduated and the grandchild hasn=t started nursery yet, but I still look forward to the start of the school year. It means that the Algonquin Restaurant International will be open for business again and I can treat the wife and myself to one of Ottawa's best-kept (and best-tasting) gastronomical secrets.

PHO MI BO GA RESTAURANT - By Ken Harley (Review)

PHO MI BO GA is a pleasant little Vietnamese Restaurant tucked in behind the parking lot for TUCSON's at the N.W. corner of Bank Street and South Hunt Club. It is hard to see if you are heading south on Bank, so just turn in to Tucson's parking lot and head for the small plaza at the rear of the lot. PHO MI BO GA is about in the middle of the plaza.

SIAM BISTRO and SANS-PAREIL - By Art Perron (Review)

I recommend you add the Siam Bistro on Wellington to your list of
restaurants....they had a fire just a few weeks ago
but will be opening again soon with what I believe is
the best Thai food in Ottawa.

The Sans-pareil at 79 blvd St-Raymond in Hull is
considered by many as one of the best tables in the
area when you evaluate on the basis of value for
money...the quality of the fare exceeds that of restaurants where the bill
requires one to have a second job. The "menu surprise,"
which changes every day according to availability of
fresh produce and which includes suggested
accompanying wine, is particularly attractive.
